In fact, staying put might be the smarter play for at least a year after the official Windows 12 rollout. Let the early adopters deal with the driver conflicts and the half-baked AI features. You can sit back and decide once the dust settles.
Microsoft is clearly positioning Windows 12 as the platform for the next generation of silicon. If you’re planning on buying a new rig next year, you’ll probably have Windows 12 anyway. If you’re holding onto your current machine, it’s probably fine. The performance gains aren't likely to be revolutionary for standard tasks like browsing, streaming, or even light office work. The AI stuff? That’s where the divide happens. If you need local language processing or advanced AI workflows, you’re going to be forced into the upgrade. If not, don’t feel pressured.
We have to talk about telemetry. An AI-first operating system needs data. Lots of it. It needs to know how you work, what you click, and how you phrase your requests. That makes me uneasy. If the AI is going to be helpful, it needs to see into my workflow. That means balancing productivity against the desire for a private computing environment. Windows 11 already pushes the boundaries here, and there’s no reason to think Windows 12 will pull back. Take your time. Wait for the reviews that aren't sponsored by tech conglomerates. Wait for the patch notes that show they actually fixed the glaring issues. Your current setup is likely better than you think. Keep your files backed up, keep your drivers updated, and don't let the marketing machine dictate your upgrade path.
